Who We Are
Helping Veterans Build Dreams
Our Mission
Veterans Intellectual Property exists to ensure that those who served our nation can protect and profit from the innovations they create. We provide veterans with access to intellectual property education, pro bono legal services, and commercialization support—empowering them to transform ideas into protected assets and build businesses that create lasting impact. Our mission is rooted in equity, service, and the belief that no veteran’s innovation should go unrecognized or unprotected.
Our Story
Years of Journey
History
Veterans Intellectual Property (VIP) was born from the vision of two veterans who understood both the promise and the pitfalls of innovation. Gregory D. Carson, a Registered Patent Attorney and disabled U.S. Air Force veteran, saw firsthand how many veterans had incredible ideas—but lacked access to the legal tools to protect them. With deep experience in patenting everything from biomedical devices to software and wireless tech, Greg knew the system well—and its barriers even better.
But when Greg founded VIP, he also knew that ethical rules prevented him from serving as both a practicing patent attorney and CEO. So he turned to Chuck Tyler—a decorated Army combat veteran and disabled leader—to take the helm. Under Chuck’s leadership, VIP has grown into a nonprofit powerhouse committed to empowering veterans through access to intellectual property services, business guidance, and a community of support.
Together, Greg and Chuck built VIP on the shared belief that veterans deserve not just to serve—but to own, protect, and profit from the innovations they create.
